Freezer Safe Canning

Make sure to choose the right glass canning jar for freezing! Here are 3 easy tips to consider:
1. Shape: Look for jars that are straight-sided or gently tapered from bottom to top. This design allows food to expand upward as it freezes, reducing pressure on the glass.
2. Shoulders: Jars with pronounced shoulders or curved necks are more likely to crack in the freezer, as expanding contents can become trapped and put stress on the glass. These styles are best suited for dry storage or refrigerated items, so remember to avoid them when freezing!
3. Fill Line: Many freezer-safe jars include an embossed “fill here” or freeze-fill line showing the maximum safe fill level for freezing. Check for the line and don’t fill contents above it or you’ll risk a spill over, or worse, cracked glass.
